Current Office: Board of Education
Why I Serve? The importance of community engagement and education were both instilled in me from my mother at a young age. So, my interest in the Board of Education (BoE) is to help represent and be the voice for all children and families who attend Simsbury Public Schools and sometimes feel they don’t have a voice. I don’t have biological children but, every child in this district is “my child” and I believe we should all be the village for these students. So, why my interest in serving – it’s purely because I have a HEART for children and believe it’s our duty to ensure that every child has every available opportunity to be socially, emotionally supported and academically successful while attending our schools. Also, with most of the operating budget cost attributed to the BoE budget, increased transparency continues to be important. Lastly, the lack of attendance at meetings often gives BoE’s a false sense that everything is well in Simsbury. So, I hope more students and parents will come out and participate in BoE meetings. No concern is too small to be voiced whether in person or virtually as everyone strives to embrace the use of technology.
So, I hope you will Vote - Sharon Thomas on November 2nd for Board of Education!
